Dr. Nawal El-Degwi Creativity Competition – 10th Edition

As part of the Annual October University For Modern Sciences And Arts (MSA)’s Faculty Of Mass Communication’s Book Fair, the 10th edition of the Dr. Nawal El-Degwi Creativity Competition celebrates a decade of literary excellence, bringing together talent, imagination, and cultural expression, Under the slogan of “Ten Years of Creativity… A Generation Writing the Future”

This year’s edition is particularly special as it welcomes the People’s Republic of China as Guest of Honor, creating a unique space where cultures meet and creativity flourishes across the pages of literature. 🇨🇳

Students are invited to continue the journey of storytelling, poetry, and novel writing—shaping the next chapter of creativity and excellence.

Eligibility Criteria

All MSA University students (undergraduate and postgraduate levels), and Faculty members from all faculties.

Submission Requirements

* All entries must be original works created by the student and must not have been previously published or awarded.
* Submissions must be written in Modern Standard Arabic. Dialogue in dialect is permitted when artistically necessary.
* Technical Guidelines
* Poetry: Classical (metrical), free verse, or prose poetry
* Short Story: Maximum of 2,500 words

🏆 Awards

Winners in both poetry and short story categories will receive:

🥇 First Place: 3,500 EGP
🥈 Second Place: 2,500 EGP

In addition, all winners will be granted official certificates of recognition, and first-place entries will be published in the annual MSA Book Fair booklet.

Book fair Masterclass

As part of the annual Faculty of Mass Communication Book Fair, October University For Modern Sciences And Arts (MSA) is pleased to announce an exclusive Cinematic Photography Masterclass delivered by renowned Director of Photography Dr. Mohamed Shafik, Head of the Cinematography Department at the Higher Institute of Cinema, taking place on Monday, April 27th at 1:00 PM.

This masterclass comes on the sidelines of the exhibition, enriching its cultural and academic program with a hands-on professional experience in visual storytelling and cinematic production.

The session is designed to introduce students to the artistic and technical foundations of cinematography, offering a deeper understanding of how visual narratives are created through the lens of the camera, and how the Director of Photography shapes the overall cinematic vision.

Participants will explore key aspects of cinematography, including:

* Fundamentals and evolution of cinematic photography and digital filmmaking
* Camera structure, components, and creative usage
* Lens types and their impact on visual storytelling
* Composition rules in still and moving images
* Camera movement, framing, angles, and visual control
* Lighting techniques and modern lighting tools
* The dramatic and expressive role of light in cinema
* Modern filming equipment and production workflows
* Post-production stages and image enhancement techniques

About the Speaker
Dr. Mohamed Shafik brings over 30 years of experience in cinematography and currently serves as the Head of the Cinematography Department at the Higher Institute of Cinema.

He has worked as Director of Photography on more than 50 productions across cinema, television, and theatre, with notable works including major drama series such as Shqa Faisal, Ard El Nefaq, El Sinderella, A’ila Zizo, and many others, in addition to successful films such as Zaki Chan, Ya Ana Ya Khalty, Abdo Mota, El Fahgoumy, etc..

Participants will gain valuable knowledge across key directing areas, including:

* The director’s toolkit: working with actors and coordinating film departments (cinematography, editing, sound, production design, and music)

About the Speaker
Amir Ramses is a distinguished Egyptian filmmaker and graduate of the High Cinema Institute – Directing Department. He has held several prominent positions in the film industry, including Artistic Director of the El Gouna Film Festival and Director of the Cairo International Film Festival.

He has served as a jury member in numerous prestigious international and regional festivals, including the Yusuf Shahen Jury, Alexandria Short Film Festival, Luxor African Film Festival, and Tripoli International Film Festival.

▫️Worked as Assistant Director with world-renowned filmmaker Youssef Chahine on films: “Skoot Hanesawwar”, “11 September”, “Alexandria… New York”.

Zeinab Aziz is a distinguished Egyptian screenwriter and author with a remarkable portfolio in cinema and television. She has written several successful films, including Harem Kareem, Awlad Harem Kareem, Alwan El Sama El Sabaa, Esabat Dr. Omar, Kalam Fel Hob, Yom Ma Etqabalna, Gedo Habibi, Baba, El Bar El Tani, and Yom Har Geddan, etc.

She has also held prominent cultural positions, including serving as the former President of the National Center for Cinema, contributing significantly to the development of Egyptian cinematic arts.

The Faculty of Mass Communication at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA) is honored to announce the organization of its 12th Annual Conference for Transformation in Media (ACT) under the title: “Media Creative Industry and Shaping Minds”

Conference Overview:

The contemporary media environment is undergoing rapid transformations driven by technological advancement. These developments have led to the emergence of what is known as the creative industry, which has become one of the primary drivers of media and cultural production.

The media creative industry refers to the ability of media institutions and creators to utilize intellectual skills, knowledge, and modern technologies to produce innovative content that attracts attention and influences collective perception. Accordingly, media creativity represents a complex phenomenon that integrates cultural, economic, and technological dimensions, contributing to a deeper understanding of media influence and its role in shaping public consciousness and constructing social reality.

Conference Objectives:

The conference aims to explore both the theoretical and practical dimensions of media creativity and discuss its role in shaping perceptions as well as cultural and social values. It also seeks to analyze the impact of digital technologies and artificial intelligence on creative practices and media production.

Furthermore, the conference provides an academic platform for dialogue among researchers, academics, media professionals, and postgraduate students to exchange insights and present research findings and professional experiences in the field of creative media.

Conference Themes:

The scientific committee welcomes research papers addressing the following themes:

  • Media Creativity in Media Production: news production, text creation, infotainment, and storytelling between modernization and innovation, as well as authenticity and imitation.
  • The Future of Media Creativity Using Artificial Intelligence Applications: the impact of AI on text production, data generation, storytelling, and the future of media professions.

  • Creativity in Marketing Campaigns: the psychology of creativity in marketing communication and marketing strategies in the era of creative media.
  • Building Creativity in Media Education Institutions: teaching creativity, fostering creativity in classrooms, and practicing creative media production.
  • Challenges of Media Creativity: balancing human creativity with technological tools and professional ethics.
  • Media Creativity, Fact-Checking, and Media Ethics.

Participation Guidelines:

* If the submitted proposal is accepted, the full paper must be submitted through the journal website by 15 September 2026: https://jmis.journals.ekb.eg/

* All research papers must follow APA Style for in-text citations and references.

* Submitted papers will be peer-reviewed by specialized academic reviewers.

Conference Fees:

* EGP 2,500 for Egyptian researchers.
* USD 400 for non-Egyptian researchers.

All conference papers will be published in the Journal of Media and Interdisciplinary Studies (JMIS), Faculty of Mass Communication, MSA University.

Researchers may also submit previously peer-reviewed and published papers for participation in the conference for a fee of EGP 1,000 for Egyptian researchers.
