We were equally pleased to have Dr. Sarah Nabih join the session, contributing to the representation of MSA University\u2019s academic vision for the future of smart, technology-driven production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the session, Prof. Dr. Tarek shared essential ideas and advancements shaping the next era of the furniture sector, summarized under the theme:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>THE COGNITIVE FACTORY<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AI-Driven Transformation in Furniture Manufacturing<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From Forest to Final Assembly: How Industry 5.0 is Redefining Craftsmanship By Prof. Dr. Tarek Saleh Said<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Dr. Tarek opened the discussion with a powerful question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Have you ever imagined a chair designed by an algorithm, carved by a robot capable of \u201cfeeling\u201d the wood, and sent to you as a digital file to be manufactured in a nearby workshop?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This concept is no longer futuristic speculation\u2014it is today\u2019s reality. He then outlined the major technological shifts revolutionizing furniture manufacturing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1- CNC Machines: Unmatched Precision and Efficiency<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CNC systems have transformed traditional woodworking into advanced digital fabrication:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Unprecedented Precision: With tolerances reaching \u00b10.05 mm, CNC machines enable complex joinery\u2014such as Dogbone joints\u2014that fit together through friction alone, eliminating the need for screws or nails.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Material Efficiency: Through intelligent \u201cnesting\u201d algorithms, material waste can be reduced from 20% to less than 8%.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Local Manufacturing Revolution: The emerging model of \u201cShipping Files, Not Parts\u201d allows designs created in one place to be produced locally anywhere in the world, reducing shipping time, cost, and environmental footprint.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>2- Robotics: From Automation to Skilled Craftsmanship<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Modern robotics have evolved far beyond simple mechanical movements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Delicate Surface Finishing: Equipped with force-sensing technology, robots can sand and polish with sensitivity comparable to skilled artisans.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Handling Flexible Materials: Using advanced computer vision, robots now stitch and upholster soft materials\u2014previously considered exclusively human tasks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Artistic Production: Six-axis robotic arms are capable of intricate sculpting and detailed ornamentation, replicating the precision of master craftsmen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>3 &#8211; Artificial Intelligence: The Designer\u2019s Creative and Strategic Ally<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AI is reshaping both the creative and operational sides of furniture production:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Generative Design: AI tools propose efficient, organic structures\u2014like Kartell\u2019s \u201cAI Chair\u201d\u2014that maximize strength while reducing material usage.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Trend Forecasting: By analyzing massive datasets of online imagery, AI can anticipate upcoming style preferences, colors, and materials.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Smart Factory Systems: AI enables predictive maintenance, preventing machine failures and optimizing supply chain planning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Conclusion<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sector is witnessing a decisive shift from traditional manual practices toward integrated, intelligent production systems.
