In alignment with MSA University\u2019s vision to uphold human rights and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Faculty of Physical Therapy at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA University) organized an international event entitled \u201cAthletes Without Barriers: Building a Green Future.\u201d The event was held under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Olfat Diab, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Therapy, and in collaboration with the Al Azzem Toastmasters Club (Bahrain) and Titans Club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event featured Captain Amr Elsohagy, a world Paralympic swimming champion and advocate for the rights of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), as its keynote speaker. Captain Elsohagy shared his inspiring personal journey of overcoming challenges to become a global role model for athletes with disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Several sessions focused on addressing the barriers faced by disabled athletes and individuals with disabilities, while providing actionable solutions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
– Dr. Menan AliyEdeen, Orthopedic Lecturer at the Faculty of Physical Therapy, MSA University, delivered a thought-provoking lecture titled \u201cThe Role of Physical Therapy: We Can Pave Their Ways,\u201d emphasizing the critical role rehabilitation professionals play in improving the quality of life for PWDs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
– Dr. Haitham ElEssawy, Lecturer of Physical Therapy for Integumentary Systems at Pharos University, presented \u201cAccessibility in Sports: The Role of Technology in Adaptive Athletics,\u201d exploring the transformative impact of assistive technology in empowering disabled individuals to achieve independence and fulfill their athletic aspirations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
– Prof. Hesham Tohamy, Professor of Psychology at Beni Suef University and an esteemed faculty professor at MSA University, delivered a session titled \u201cInclude the Excluded,\u201d addressing the psychological and social aspects of inclusion as a cornerstone of Sustainable Development Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Internationally renowned speakers from Bahrain\u2014including Mr. Sayed Alwadaei, Dr. Hasan Almoosawi, and Eng. Ayob Asad of the Al Azzem Toastmasters Club\u2014provided exceptional insights. These role models, who have overcome various disabilities, inspired attendees with their leadership and commitment to inclusivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
