The Writing and Support Center at MSA provides a free writing tutoring service on campus for students to promote their success as university students.<\/p>

The Writing and Support Center helps undergraduate students in all faculties and majors to enhance their academic writing, communication, and presentation skills in a friendly and stress-free environment.<\/p>

The Writing and Support Center offers MSA students guidance on their assignments and academic tasks at all stages involved in the writing process: from brainstorming and prewriting techniques to writing skills, citation and proofreading strategies.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Writing and Support Center at MSA offers two main services:<\/strong><\/u><\/p>

– One-to-one consultations<\/strong><\/p>

The writing and support center provides one-to-one assistance to students on their writing and academic tasks as well as feedback and follow up tutorials. Tutors will help students improve their academic skills on a given task and provide tips and resources to students to become more confident and successful writers.<\/p>

Tutors will primarily offer help in the following areas:<\/strong><\/p>

\u25aa Organizational skills: brain storming, outlining, and prewriting techniques<\/p>

\u25aa Language skills: language structure and mechanics<\/p>

\u25aa Study skills: paraphrasing, summarizing, quoting, synthesizing, and integration of sources<\/p>

\u25aa Avoidance of plagiarism and maintaining academic honesty<\/p>

\u25aa Communication and presentation skill<\/p>

– Workshops<\/strong><\/p>

The Writing and Support Center offers both specialized and tailored workshops on varied topics to students in all disciplines. Sessions will be delivered by keynote speakers, and faculty members. The purpose of the workshops is to provide academic support to MSA students in any subject or field.<\/p>

The following are examples of workshops topics which can be tailored and customized to assist students:<\/strong><\/p>

\u2022 Integration of Sources and Avoidance of Plagiarism<\/p>

  1. \u00a0Providing one-to-one support for all university students in all soft skills (this includes CV writing, Graduate research skills in different faculties, presentation skills) All year round Daily<\/li>
  2. \u00a0Conducts workshops for skill development One workshop per semester<\/li>
  3. \u00a0Provides one-to-one support for all students especially those with learning difficulties<\/li>
  4. \u00a0Provides more hands-on exercises to students who are facing some problems in any of the academic English units<\/li><\/ol><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    How to book a writing centre session: <\/h3><\/span><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
    \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
    1. The student heads to the faculty of Languages Administration Office (A215).<\/li>
    2. The student books a session that suits their schedule.<\/li>
    3. The administration office arranges with an instructor and plans for the session.<\/li>
    4. The student is contacted and directed to Library Building (L) – Third floor.<\/li><\/ol><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

      1 Oct 2025: “overcoming writer’s block “<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>

      This session helps students get started in the writing process. It covers brainstorming techniques, like freewriting and mind mapping, and teaches students how to create a structured outline to organize their ideas before they start drafting.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

      \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

      8 Oct 2025:”avoiding common\u00a0writing mistakes”<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>

      This session provides students with practical strategies to identify and correct frequent errors in their academic writing. The goal is to move beyond simply relying on spell-check and to teach students how to become more effective editors of their own work.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

      15 Oct 2025:”From Topic to Thesis: Crafting a Strong thesis statement”<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>

      Students will learn how to turn a broad topic into a focused, debatable argument and how to use that argument to guide their entire paper.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

      \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

      22 Oct 2025: “Integrating Sources: A Guide to Quoting, Paraphrasing, and Summarizing”<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>

      This workshop provides clear rules for incorporating evidence without plagiarizing. It covers the proper use of direct quotes, how to paraphrase a source accurately, and when to summarize information.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

      29 Oct 2025: “Mastering the Literature Review”<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>

      This session breaks down the process of writing a literature review. It covers how to find relevant sources, organize them by theme, and identify gaps in existing research to justify a new study.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

      29 Oct 2025: \u201cElevate Your Presentation Skills\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>

      This session aims to help students boost their confidence and refine their delivery techniques when presenting. Whether preparing for a class presentation or a conference talk, participants will learn effective strategies to connect with their audience and communicate their message clearly and confidently.<\/p>

      This is a hands-on workshop dedicated to a specific citation style. Participants learn the rules and practice citing different source types, from books and journal articles to websites and online videos.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

      26 Nov 2025: “Advanced Research Skills: Beyond Google”<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>

      This session teaches students how to use the library and online databases more effectively. It covers advanced search techniques.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

      3 Dec 2025:\u00a0 “Self-Editing Strategies: Proofreading for Perfection”<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>

      This session teaches students how to find and correct their own errors. It covers common grammatical mistakes, punctuation rules, and tips for catching typos, helping students become more confident editors of their own work.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
